Welcome to the Interlude Student Newspaper Collection from the University of St. Francis in Joliet, IL. The collection contains digital images of The Interlude from 1925 through 1969. The newspaper offers a unique perspective of life in a Franciscan organization during the first half of the 20th century.
The original newspaper for, the then, Assisi Junior College was The Interlude and was first published December 25, 1925. In 1930, the school added senior college curriculum and changed names to the College of St. Francis (CSF). For the all-girls institution The Interlude was the student’s outlet for campus, local, and world news. Article topics included: curriculum and staff changes, social activities, musical events, graduations, and wedding announcements. The Interlude ran continuously until May 1969. After this year CSF and Lewis University (then Lewis College of Romeoville, IL) merged into one school and created its own newspaper, the Probe. After the de-merger in 1973 CSF created the current student newspaper, the Encounter, in 1976.
