Church History

The early history of Foosland is sketchy. A Methodist Protestant society, Saybrook Mission, came together, meeting in school houses at Dobson, Seaside, South Union, Hyde, and Center. In 1875 the people met for their first quarterly conference and changed their name from Saybrook Mission to Foosland Circuit. Their first church was erected in 1877.

The Foosland Circuit included Foosland, Osman, Howard and Walker in 1878 when the first pastor, Rev. Jacob Kreps, was appointed. In 1888, a parsonage was built on donated land. The appointed ministers used this parsonage until it was sold in 1948 for a more modern house.

In 1905, the second church building was erected and remodeled over the years.

The women organized a WSCS and was active until 2005. The women also had a Dorcas Sunday School that met socially once or twice a year. At one time the youth had active an Christian Endeavor group that met monthly.

The church closed in 2007.
