Church History

n 1873 Fanie Wills Sullivant organized the first Sunday school class in Burr Oak in her home until they met in a seed barn when the village was moved to Sibley. When the school was built the class met there until the congregation built the first church in 1889 along with a parsonage. At one time, the Methodists and the German Evangelicals had a worshiping congregation but the Evangelicals joined with the Methodists in Sibley.

In 1919 the women organizaed a Willing Workers class and remained a separate organization from the Laides Aid and later the Women's Society of Christian Service. They raised money to provide essentials for the church through bazaars and chicken dinners and other fund-raising projects.

In 1964 Sibley MC yoked with Anchor EUBC. In 1968 Sibley and Anchor became a two-point charge. Anchor closed in 2002 and Sibley closed in June 2010.
