Church History

Harmony was a rural society in Austin Township of Macon County, first organized as United Brethren between 1874 and 1880. It is unclear where the congregation met for worship, as the members didn't start record keeping until 1906. The members may have worshiped in an old school house until they built their first church in 1900. This building was expanded and improved over the years.

The women organized a Ladies Aid in 1908 and continued until 1943. The church also had a young people's group and missionary society. The women had an active WSCS group.

The church was part of the Mount Pleasant Circuit and later Center and Harmony were a two point charge; Harmony was actually located in Latham. The church became United Methodist with the denominational merger in 1968. The church closed in 1981.
